The forklift is a material handling machine used to raise and move loads from one location to another. Each part of a forklift has a specific function. Various parts can be utilized to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts for lifting loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab under the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the back of the truck.

Cab
Positioned in the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated within the cab.

Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, that are situated at the back to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
