Internal Combustion Lift Trucks
The IC forklift belongs within the class IV and V forklift classification. They can be diesel, liquid propane or gas units. Primarily, the ICE or also known as internal combustion engine models are utilized outside, as they emit some emissions and can function in severe weather. Propane-powered models, however, can be used indoors as long as proper ventilation is used. It is best to determine what kinds of environments you will be working in and what specific requirements you need to utilize the forklift for, in order to make sure that you select the best model to meet your requirements.
Internal Combustion Engine Benefits
Compared to a similar capacity electric truck, the IC engine is offered in a lower initial purchase price ranging anywhere from 20% to 40% lower. The Internal Combustion Engine units are fast and simple to refuel. This feature greatly reduces downtime because there is no need to recharge any batteries, as there is with electric units.
To the similarly equipped electric truck, IC models do provide a higher performance capabilities with far heavier lift capacities compared to electric lift truck units. Over recent years, there have been many changes regarding emissions technology and this has resulted in lower total emission levels. ICE trucks remain popular with load sizes around 8,000 pounds and even much higher in certain applications such as ports, lumberyard settings and steel manufacturing facilities.
ICE Disadvantages
There are a few disadvantages to the ICE models. Like for example, they utilize a higher cost-per-hour to operate as compared to electric trucks. This is mostly because of maintenance costs and fuel. Moreover, these models normally create more noise compared to the electric units as they run louder. ICE trucks also have fuel-storage requirements to consider as well.
